I am close to 73 and participate in jiujitus classes. I try to attend 4 days a week including both gi and no gi. Between the jujitsu gym fee, monthly bus pass, and laundry it is well worth the cost.

There is no age limit for you to start learning jiu-jitsu. You may not be a competitive fighter right away but there is always some good and meaningful learning in any good jiu-jitsu class. I advise you to look carefully for there are many instructors that do not have the qualification for teaching or not have enough knowledge to do it properly. Look carefully because it has become common students getting hurt during their training mainly in the beginners level.

Absolutely. I started when I was a little older than you are now.

BJJ classes are the way to go if you’re serious about learning the sport (as opposed to other interests you might find on this site.) They are prepared for total beginners who don’t know the sport when they start— making BJJ more accessible to adult beginners than most sports. Observe a class before joining and ideally join month to month if you can.

If you don’t want a class, roll with experienced guys here who are willing to coach beginners. Some of us enjoy teaching.

I started at 54. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself. Now I'm 60+ and just earned my purple belt. Absolutely worth it!

Congratulations on your achievement, I am sure that you will get your black belt. It is just a matter of time.
