Really interesting responses. I met my husband thru wrestling back on global fight. And some of the guys I’ve wrestled have become good friends too, so they all know. Some friends have found out about it thru the grapevine, but in the end, who cares. The older I get, the less I care who knows. Haha
I’ve also found a lot of people didn’t know that there is a whole group of people who share their private interest.
As for talking to a therapist about it, I’m not sure I wanna go there. Haha
My wife knows and me and her have tried to wrestle, but shes just not into it like you guys on meetfighters are. I really really need my opponent to be into it or its just bland, so we've stopped and shes ok with me wrestling others. My pretty female friend came over and we wrestled and my wife watched and she thought it was cute and she was totally fine with it. However, when I text the same friend too much, she gets all jealous. Its funny how shes not threaten by us wrestling, but is by us bonding verbally😄
Wow, it's pretty rare that I hear about another married guy whose wife knows about his wrestling fetish and is relatively okay with it. For me, the rules are that I don't wrestle other women, only guys; that I don't have sex with them (not something I'm looking for anyway); and I don't do it in our home.
It still creates some friction in our marriage, and I try to avoid reminding her that I have this fetish (I deal with it every day; why should she have to as well?). So even though it wouldn't matter if I got "caught", I keep the hotel costs off our shared credit card, and when I meet with someone to wrestle I'm pretty quiet about it until after I've done it. Something weird about her knowing when I'm doing it.
Also, I'm not surprised to hear your wife is more concerned about your texting with that woman than wrestling her, since if the woman becomes a romantic interest for you, that's a threat to your wife's relationship with you.
It's not too common among those of us with husbands either, lol. Fortunately mine doesn't have a problem with it so long as I avoid erotic matches, which is fine, and actually prefers I have matches at the house because he's less worried about the possibility of me getting hurt (never have been, but he worries anyway).
I was a private boxing guy many years ago. Backyard and apartment bouts. To some few people, but no girlfriends knew about my fighting fetish.
A now 71 year old guy was a fave boxing partner - way back when he was a tanned farm boy turned teacher - is still around. Stopped sparring 20 years ago circa age 51.
Another slightly younger friend is still sparring with even younger guys.
The 3 Native American women whom I boxed with - almost 40 years ago - are all dead. That they wanted to try boxing with me - kind of meant that they trusted me NOT to hurt them. Two were repeat sparring partners, too.
A couple of the younger guys that I boxed with in Oklahoma - who knows what happened to them?
My friend with possible early Alzheimer’s has forgotten.
Everyone else from that period of my life is deceased. Some very good men.
Here in Chicago - only 2 guys know - a former boss who is very ill and a friend now living on the street with mental illness.
I let everyone know. Friends, neighbors, medical personnel. Can't think of any group I try to hide it from. Reasons include having nobody thinking something is amiss about marks on the body, or neighbors and law enforcement seeing men visiting at all hours, carrying bags/cases in and out of the house, or overhearing sounds of sport behind the hanging tarps in the back yard.-
But an overriding reason is HOPING TO FIND FOLKS into wrestling, martial arts, etc. I.e., recruiting partners on the mats, as they seem to be hard to find locally. I have never received negative comments from any of the folks who I have told of my interests; and it might have served to keep men from giving me a hard time (e.g., bullying)
I welcome most any guy of legal age to try things out; I don't countenance those who do not want to participate – as I'm not here to entertain voyeurs and other fakes. If it is a group get together, all must be willing to tangle with all the others [Nobody should feel "unwanted" or "left out." ]
When I do encounter interest and they prove they are genuine, I'll try to recruit them to join MeetFighters – They have to be real; so they don't clutter the site with guys who are fakes, frauds, phonies, who would be part of the zero past opponents crowd. Probably have recruited a dozen men to become members.
My dream is to be as open as you are. I wish I could, but I know how cruel people can be, and the thought of going to work and everyone knowing and laughing and gawking at me , and I can't escape because I really need my job....that would be a nightmare
Most of my close friends I've met at and through martial art schools I've attended. But none know about me meeting people on this social media platform.
Even though a wife/partner may be supportive, I wonder if our wrestling/fighting interests subconsciously affect them. People are not always transparent or honest with how they REALLY feel. Deano
My wife has knowledge of my wrestling and encourages me as well. Family and friends do as well. I find it hard to believe that some guys Wrestle behind their significant others back but I also try to understand understand
Interesting question to pose. Seems to have had a limited response. Some of my colleagues know I have done some wrestling, plus I do a boxing fitness class (non contact) which alot more people know about.
My wife knows, as well as a trusted friend I met through work, who himself had been brave enough to out himself as bi and into S&M. Apart from them, and a psychologist I saw in the early late 90s when I was trying to figure out why I have this fetish/addiction, that's about it.
My wife doesn't wrestle, though she was game enough to try it when we were younger. She actually enjoyed wrestling with me, but it felt weird to me. I can't put someone I love into submission holds the same way I would put a relatively anonymous opponent into them.
I'm not interested in wrestling but I am interested in boxing. I can't hide my interest. I watch it on TV all the time and I go to a boxing gym. Everyone knows and most people are impressed that at my age I still train. What people don't know is that it is a big turn on for me. Nothing turns me on like boxing and no one knows this except the opponents I have met on MF.
I'm just wondering who knows about your wrestling interest and participation? Does your significant other know? Does he/she also wrestle? Do your friends and coworkers know? (As for me, no one knows - not the wife, not my friends, not my coworkers; not a clue!)

We traced the origin of my wrestling fetish to (surprise!) my mother. :-)
Seriously, it took almost a year to get to that conclusion, but it really did make perfect sense in the end.
